Job Description
The Peer Specialist facilitates engagement with teams by forging strong connections with participants and families, undertaking outreach activities, and encouraging help-seeking. The role involves building relationships, advocacy, co-creating support and wellness tools, and influencing team culture.
Requirements
- NYCPS Peer Certification or Provisional Certification required: Recovery Coach, Peer Specialist or Family Peer Advocate
- Understand the community and available resources
- Made positive progress toward own recovery
- Good interpersonal communications skills and ability to empathize with mental health participants
- Ability to disclose recovery story (where appropriate)
- Excellent judgment and understanding of boundaries when working with participants
