The Construction Inspector will be responsible for monitoring the work of contractors to ensure quality control and contract compliance for roadway, structure, and bridge construction projects. The position requires frequent contact with engineers and field personnel, as well as external contact with contractors, government agencies, and the public.
Requirements
- High School Diploma Required
- 2-year Technical Degree with an emphasis in engineering, mathematics, and the basic sciences and 1 year of related heavy construction experience
- Minimum 6 years’ experience: min. 3 years of VDOT experience in roadway; bridges; and stormwater construction
- VDOT certifications or similar construction experience
- Intermediate to expert skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to read and understand piping, civil, and electrical design drawings
- General working knowledge of highway, bridge, or infrastructure systems
- Ability to manage and prioritize project assignments to meet competing deadlines
- Good interpersonal, communication, and conceptual thinking skills
- Ability to work well independently and within a team setting
- Ability to assist in developing strategic approaches and concepts
- Availability to travel to project site locations
- Availability to work overtime and occasional long hours
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. deadweight
- Vision correctable to 20/20 eyesight
- Maintain the required Certifications for various VDOT inspections including: So, aggregate compaction VDOT or NICET Level II, Asphalt Field Level I & II VDOT, Hydraulic Cement Concrete Field VDOT or NICET Level II, Pavement Marking VDOT, Slurry Surfacing VDOT, Surface Treatment VDOT, Flagger Certification VDOT, Certification for erosion & control inspection VA DEQ, Nuclear Gauge Safety Training NRC**recognized provider, Stormwater Management Inspector cert. VA DEQ, Intermediate work zone traffic control VDOT approved provider, 10-hour OSHA safety training OSHA, GRIT (Guardrail Certification) VDOT
