The Construction Inspector will monitor the work of contractors to ensure quality control and contract compliance for roadway, structure, and bridge construction projects. The position requires independent coordination and direction of all phases of construction inspection, coordination with contractors and agency personnel, and maintenance of comprehensive project records.
Requirements
- High School Diploma Required.
- 2-year Technical Degree with an emphasis in engineering, mathematics, and the basic sciences and 1 year of related heavy construction experience, or similar construction experience.
- Minimum 6 years’ experience: min. 3 years of VDOT experience in roadway; bridges; and stormwater construction.
- VDOT certifications or similar construction experience.
- Intermediate to expert skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to read and understand piping, civil, and electrical design drawings
- General working knowledge of highway, bridge, or infrastructure systems
- Ability to manage and prioritize project assignments to meet competing deadlines
- Good interpersonal, communication, and conceptual thinking skills
- Ability to work well independently and within a team setting
- Ability to assist in developing strategic approaches and concepts
- Availability to travel to project site locations
- Availability to work overtime and occasional long hours
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. deadweight
- Vision correctable to 20/20 eyesight
