Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Design Engineer II (Mid-level) to join the EWS/Wiremold Team in West Hartford, CT. The Design Engineer II is responsible for the design of new products for the Wire and Cable Management business.
Requirements
- Developing, evaluating, and validating product designs
- Creating specification and documentation packages
- Supporting preproduction builds
- Overseeing the transfer to production
- Reviewing, recommending, and appraising design work done by satellite facilities/vendors and the offshore design team
- Working with the Marketing Product Line Manager to develop the product specification
- Gaining consensus on design with marketing and manufacturing
- Determining the appropriate codes and standards, testing requirements, end-user preferences and trends, and competitive product analysis
- Creating sketches, 3D files, and prototype designs
- Evaluating concepts to choose the best design for the business
- Working with the offshore team to create final 3D models, assemblies, and drawings
- Researching, reading, and understanding competitive patents
- Working with Patent Attorneys to avoid patent infringement
- Protecting the company’s intellectual property by obtaining patents
- Refining and completing the design through modeling, prototyping, testing, analysis, piloting, and inspection of processes and first articles
- Working closely with Advanced Manufacturing, Tool Shops, and Manufacturing to procure prototypes and production product components
- Overseeing the completion of product documentation to support production
- Investigation and analysis of new materials, components, technology, and engineering practices
- Working with listing agencies to conduct and develop standards testing as required
- Managing projects to rapid and effective completion
- Performing other similar and related duties as required
