The Neonatal Health Advisor will provide practical and operational advice for projects in Senegal. This position offers a unique opportunity to establish effective health interventions and contribute to the sustainable improvement of maternal and neonatal health throughout the country.
Requirements
- Higher degree (MD, MPH, or equivalent) in public health, medicine, nursing, obstetrics, or related field.
- At least 6 years of experience in increasingly responsible positions in designing, implementing, and coordinating maternal and neonatal health programs, preferably in Senegal or similar low-resource environments.
- Proven experience in providing technical assistance and in-service training to healthcare providers on maternal and neonatal health topics.
- Proven experience in supervising or managing technical staff, particularly in the context of a decentralized program structure.
- Experience working with government health structures, health facilities, and local partners.
- Prior experience working on US government-funded projects is an added advantage.
- In-depth technical knowledge of evidence-based neonatal health interventions throughout the care continuum (including essential and emergency newborn care during delivery, postnatal care, and care of small and sick newborns).
- Mastery of developing and implementing training and quality improvement programs for healthcare professionals.
- In-depth understanding of current policies and strategies in maternal and neonatal health, both at facility and community levels.
- Good understanding of data use for program tracking, quality improvement, and informed decision-making in maternal and neonatal health.
- Knowledge of strengthening referral systems within health facilities and between facilities and communities.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines in a rapidly evolving environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team, with strong leadership skills to guide regional teams.
- Commitment to promoting respectful maternity care and family-centered approaches in healthcare delivery.
- Solid documentation and writing skills.
- Mastery of Microsoft Office applications and Internet tools.
- Availability and ability to travel frequently to Senegal.
- Mastery of written and spoken French and English required.
