Staff Software Engineer, Machine Learning

Headspace is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join their Machine Learning team. This role involves leading the development of cutting-edge AI models, shaping the ML platform architecture, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and mentoring junior engineers. The company focuses on improving the experiences of its members and clinicians through mindful application of Machine Learning within mental healthcare. It is a hybrid position working from the San Francisco office.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or related field OR equivalent experience
• 5+ years of ML engineering experience in an academic or professional setting, programming in Python
• 5+ years of experience with vector search, embedding models, recommender systems, supervised, unsupervised machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, LLM orchestration, RAG systems
• 3+ years of experience with modern NLP tools (scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, spaCy)
• Experience with unit, integration, and end-to-end testing, version control
• Strong problem solving and communication skills
• Mentorship of junior engineers and contribution to DEIB initiatives
