Job Description
The Special Education Teacher serves children assigned to them who are eligible students as defined in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). They develop individualized education programs (IEPs), assess student needs, and collaborate with teachers and parents to provide engaging learning opportunities. The teacher must have a bachelor's degree, state license, and experience with special education methods, research, and best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required
- Appropriate state license or certification required
- Understanding of LEA policies, laws, and guidelines related to special education including IDEA
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Interpersonal skills that reflect an ability to maintain a calm and patient demeanor with all students
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and program-specific software
- Ability to lift up to 45 pounds, stand for prolonged periods, and assist students with physical difficulties
