The Animal Wellbeing Advisor position oversees the Animal Welfare Program and the Enrichment Program for all Zoo New England, including design and deployment of all assessment forms, enrichment approval tools, forms and policies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Zoology or related field of study
- Demonstrable knowledge of welfare and enrichment, including knowledge of AZA accreditation and USDA standards, code of ethics, and current industry behavioral husbandry practices
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive animal husbandry experience, preferably in an AZA institution
- Ability to coordinate with others to provide deliverables, create, and deliver training
- Ability to think critically, work independently, and demonstrate good time management
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to convey scientific information clearly and concisely
- TB tested negative within the last 6 months and fully vaccinated for COVID-19
- Proficiency in Microsoft suite, including Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams and ZIMS
- Must be physically able to work on their feet or sit for long periods, lift over 30lbs, and perform the duties of an animal keeper on an as-needed basis
