Job Description
Under the supervision of the Manager Health Services, the Health Care Aide (HCA) provides direct care to patients within the Selkirk Mental Health Centre (SMHC); assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), supporting independence and patient goal acquisition.
Requirements
- Experience providing care to individuals in a mental health setting, or with physical and cognitive impairments is preferred
- Successful completion of recognized Health Care Aide course required
- Grade 10
- Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrating effective command of the English language
- Knowledge of Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Workplace Hazardable Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices and other relevant Workplace Safety and Health requirements/responsibilities
- Knowledge of Indigenous customs, traditions and values is preferred
- Ability to prioritize care for an individual patient or group of patients
- Ability to respond to a variety of simultaneous demands
- Ability to perform independently and as a member of the healthcare team
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations
- Ability to recognize and pursue self-development opportunities
