Human-Computer Interaction Research Scientist, Carbon Neutrality

Toyota Research Institute (TRI) is seeking a Human-Computer Interaction Research Scientist to work in the Carbon Neutrality Department within their Human-Centered AI (HCAI) division. The role involves researching and developing AI-backed applications to understand, predict, and enable carbon neutral behavior. The researcher will collaborate with experts across AI and behavior science, integrating machine learning into live applications and leading a research project.

Requirements

• PhD in Computer Science, HCI/Human Centered Design, Information/Information Management and Systems, or related multidisciplinary fields.
• 3+ years of experience prototyping and deploying applied AI projects.
• Full-stack web programming proficiency (Python or similar preferred).
• Familiarity with at least one AI framework (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, etc.).
• Familiarity with at least one method of mobile prototyping (e.g., React Native, Flutter, etc.).
• Experience with at least one framework supporting AI model hosting and deployment to live applications (AWS Sagemaker, Lambda, Google Cloud Vertex AI, Azure ML, etc.).
• Willingness to learn new frameworks.
• Some experience in human-centered research (behavioral data science, computational social science, human-computer interaction).
