Housing Inspector (Compliance/Maintenance Specialist II, Time-Limited)

Sarasota County Government is hiring a Housing Inspector to join the Resilient SRQ team as part of the Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program. This federally funded initiative supports residents recovering from recent storm events. The Housing Inspector will inspect single-family construction projects, ensure quality workmanship, and keep progress on track through clear communication and documentation.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or its equivalent and 3+ years of experience in construction/maintenance, contract applicable construction trades, or in a field providing technical/supervisory services to construction/maintenance contractors.
• Valid Florida driver's license by date of hire.
• Housing Quality Standards (HQS) Certification OR the ability to obtain the certification within 45 days of employment.
• Strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
• Solid organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities, including the capacity to multitask and work well under pressure.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and comfort using online tools and data systems.
• Reliable transportation and the ability to work independently or as part of a team while building partnerships and connecting applicants to community resources.
