The OSU Foundation is a nonprofit entity governed by a Board of Trustees and operates independently of Oregon State University, yet it serves as the university's central hub for alumni engagement and fundraising. In 2017 it merged with the OSU Alumni Association—founded in 1873—to create a unified organization that employs more than 180 professionals and houses all fundraising roles. The Foundation manages an endowment exceeding $1 billion and has led the university's second comprehensive campaign, Believe It, which set a $1.75 billion goal and has already secured over $1.5 billion in gifts while generating more than 862,000 moments of engagement. Its sustained record of surpassing $200 million in a fiscal year—without a single $50 million gift—demonstrates a powerful, alumni-driven philanthropic culture that distinguishes it within the higher-education fundraising sector.
