The CNC Grinder, Advanced performs grinding operations to grind external and internal surfaces of metallic components as per engineering drawings, specifications or Job Instruction Sheets. The incumbent is responsible for grinding a product to meet the customer’s quality expectations and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
Requirements
- Determine machining requirements, dimensional specifications, and set up requirements from programs, process sheets and blueprints.
- Perform set up and operation of the CNC Universal Grinders.
- Mount and dress the required Grinding Wheels.
- Dress wheel and program for profile grinding.
- Load CNC Program into machine control.
- Write and edit programs, select and prepare tooling and grind tools to size, as required;
- Set appropriate magnetic chuck or related jig to hold components securely for grinding operations.
- Ensure efficient production of quality parts by completing in-process and final checks using gauges and measuring equipment.
- Check blueprints to verify machining dimensions; use mounted grinding wheel to machine final desired dimension.
- Ensure that all machining tasks are completed in accordance with specified run times.
- Observe numerical displays on control panel and compare with data on process sheet to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates and speeds or machining cuts.
- Edit program to optimize and/or correct machine performance.
- Coordinate operation of additional machines during controlled machining cycles.
- Conduct minor preventative maintenance procedures as scheduled.
- Complete minor troubleshooting as required.
- Observes and listens to machine operation in order to detect malfunctions such as worn or damaged grinding wheels when possible.
- Notify Team Leader or Lead Hand when run times are incorrect or product will not meet time lines.
