Bureau Veritas is seeking a Professional Engineer Special Inspector Part-Time to join their team. The role involves performing inspections in NYC and requires a strong understanding of Chapter 17 of the NYC Building Code and related inspection requirements. The position is part-time as needed and offers a competitive hourly rate of $65-$75/hour, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Architecture
- Minimum 3+ years of experience performing inspections in NYC (varied in size and complexity)
- Strong understanding of Chapter 17 of the NYC Building Code and related inspection requirements
- Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) License in New York or New Jersey (Civil or Structural)
- 5+ years of direct construction inspection experience in NYC or NJ
- Familiarity with NYC and International Building Codes
- Hands-on experience inspecting Pile Installations and Geotechnical Conditions per Chapter 17 requirements
- Current safety training in: Fall protection, Scaffolding and ladder safety, Work-zone safety, OSHA 10-hour Construction Safety Certification (minimum requirement)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills — comfortable interfacing with contractors, clients, and agencies
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and reporting
- Proven ability to deliver accurate, detailed inspection reports in a timely manner
- Strong sense of accountability and professionalism
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license
- Willingness to pursue additional technical certifications as part of ongoing professional growth
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in dynamic field environments
- Familiar with construction materials, methods, and safety standards
