The job is for a Senior Public Health Nutritionist with the Department of Health in Hendry and Glades Counties. The incumbent is responsible for administering and coordinating activities related to breastfeeding support, education, and promotion consistent with state and federal regulations. They will also provide comprehensive nutrition care and education services within the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) in health clinics and other community settings.
Requirements
- Determines nutrition risk eligibility of clients in accordance with DHM 150-24
- Provides individual nutrition education contacts, adapts nutrition education content based on need of the client
- Documents services provided in accordance with State WIC Office documentation guidelines
- Correctly identifies all high-risk clients, completing an individual high-risk/medical high-risk care plan using the SOAP format
- Assigns appropriate food packages
- Conducts group nutrition education class
- FL-WiSE System data entry
- Performs anthropometric measurements and hematological testing for WIC clients following DHM 150-24 rules and regulations
- Determines client eligibility
- Provides interactive newsletter contact
- Acts as one of the lead contact persons for breastfeeding support and promotion activities
- Refers WIC participants to appropriate WIC staff, community agency, organization, and/or health care provider
- Assists Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Coordinator in recruiting, training, and mentoring WIC Breastfeeding Counselors
- Provides Breastfeeding outreach services as assigned
- Participates in monthly state Breastfeeding Coordinator conference calls
- Assists with organization and maintenance of breastfeeding supplies for site and issues manual breastpumps per Local Agency guidelines
- Provides breastfeeding education to all pregnant clients served
- Coordinates and tracks all prenatal clients; assigning WIC clients to Breastfeeding Peer Counselors
- Responsible for ensuring all breastfeeding clients have access to timely, skilled postpartum breastfeeding support
- Conducts group breastfeeding education class as needed
- Submits the WIC Breastfeeding Award of Excellence Application and makes every effort to qualify for the award
- Monitors WIC Staff documentation for clients who have been issued breastfeeding equipment monthly or as needed
- Provides on-going and annual breastfeeding training for local WIC staff
- Complies with the mandatory requirements of Section 215.422, Florida Statutes and Chapter 691-24, Florida Administrative Code
- Attends staff meetings, trainings, and staff development activities as required
- Participates in end of the month inventory
- Participates in quarterly WIC Quality Assurance monitoring using monitoring tools
- Accurately and promptly completes all administrative forms, including but not limited to timesheets, employee activity reports (EARS), and travel forms
- Provides professional and administrative support to Nutrition Program Director
- Completes assigned administrative projects and assigned reports in a timely fashion
