Job description
The Apprentice Electrician is a training position to develop the knowledge and skills a Journeyman Electrician will need to maintain system substation facilities. The role involves mechanical maintenance of large electrical equipment, including power circuit breakers, transformers, and other substation equipment. The position requires working at heights, in all climate conditions, and being available for overtime and emergency call-out.
The Apprentice Electrician will be responsible for performing live line work in substations, using hot sticks and gloving methods. They will also be responsible for installation and commissioning of new substation equipment, large power transformer maintenance and repair, and gasket preparation. Additionally, they will perform plumbing, carpentry, rigging, sheet metal, calibration, machinist, and welding tasks.
This position is a great fit for individuals who are willing to work outside in all climate conditions, work at significant heights above the ground, and be available for overtime and emergency call-out. The role requires a strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, as well as the ability to read and follow procedures, rules, and regulations.
