Data Reporter (Politics)

The Houston Chronicle is seeking a Data Reporter to join the Hearst Texas Data Team, a collaborative group focused on politics, campaign finance, and voter registration. This role involves finding and telling compelling stories with data through journalistic writing, coding, and data visualization, collaborating with colleagues, and contributing to data literacy in the newsroom. The ideal candidate will be passionate about data and storytelling.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience working with large, complex datasets in a newsroom setting.
• Strong news judgment and ability to quickly analyze and present data.
• Comfort using Python, R, or similar tools for data analysis.
• Creativity and curiosity in finding stories in spreadsheets and databases.
• Ability to work well with colleagues and thrive in a collaborative environment.
